After practicing yoga for years, we felt that it was time to build a place where we can share our knowledge and energy. While our yoga journeys had a different start, we have always shared the vision. We wanted to create a place where one could practice authentic yoga and attain spiritual and physical goals. We were working hard on making our dream come true and in 2020 Austria life center was born.
Surya
(ERYT 500 & YACEP YA USA, teaches in English & Russian)
Surya was born to an Indian father and a Russian mother. She was lucky to discover yoga at a very young age, her first formal yoga class was in the year 2000. That was the moment she fell in love with the practice. At the age of 19 she moved to Mysore and joined classes with B.N.S Iyengar’s direct disciple. Her teacher had more than fifteen years of intense practice in asana, pranayama, meditation and could deftly assist students of different levels. Surya practiced with him six days a week for two years. During those years he did not miss a single class, even during the “off season” when she was his only student. Later she started assisting him and a few years into her stay she became a lead ashtanga yoga teacher at a local studio. Taking her personal practice and duty as a teacher very seriously, she has spent 10 years in Mysore studying Philosophy and practicing Ashtanga yoga.
She started her asana practice from scratch and then eventually flowed into 4th series. The self-awareness and self-care instilled in her by the teacher and then adopted in personal practice makes her a good teacher for new practitioners, also allowing her to guide one safe into advanced asana sequences. Refining the ashtanga yoga approach, making it novice friendly and injury free are the base of her teaching philosophy.
Surya has a vast experience in training teachers and guiding the novice on their yoga path. Until now she has trained over 500 yoga teachers around the globe and has guided thousands at the start of their yoga path.
Off the mat Surya has four degrees one of which is a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Mysore.
Norbert
(ERYT 500 & YACEP YA USA, teaches in German & English)
Norbert was born in Austria and joined a skiing school at the age of 10. He showed excelling proficiency in cross country skiing, running and football, while his true passion was snowboarding. He took part in various competitions till the age of 18 and graduated from a Hotel Business college a year later.
He was driven to yoga after suffering from a complex injury that required a lengthy recovery therapy. He started practicing in 2001 with yoga Iyengar after being on crutches for 9 months. Iyengar’s therapeutic approach quickly brought him back on his feet. In a year, he made his first trip to India. Fascinated by the country and its heritage he traveled back more than 16 times, dedicating each trip to studying yoga. In 2007, he discovered Ashtanga vinyasa and practiced it up to advanced series.
His yoga path is unique in its way. Having had multiple injuries not only was he able to achieve a complete recovery but also, he was each time getting his practice back to an advanced level. While analyzing his body and finding ways to heal, he discovered many unique techniques that he shares in his class.
Norbert spent over 30 years studying different training approaches. He is well known for his sharp eye and has a unique skill to recognize the smallest misalignments that keep one from attaining their asana goals. If you have been struggling with a vinyasa jump back, handstand or any other element – Norbert is your guy. After careful observation, he will either fix it on the spot, or provide you with the necessary training.
